For biology teacher Renee Fallon, every year holds the same process of. The non-profit Synopsys Outreach Foundation was founded in 1999 and annually supports more than 130,000 teachers and students developing science fair projects in all 58 counties in California. MVHS students have been a consistent presence in this county-based science competition every year. Schools across the country have been making an effort to continue to push interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Every fall, students enter the Synopsys Science and Technology Championship, a Santa Clara county science fair where they run their own research-based report, guided along the way by mentors. The awards ceremony will be held on Apat the Campbell Heritage Theater. High school participants competed for opportunities to compete in state and national competitions along with the cash prizes. Participants competed for more than 250 special prizes totaling nearly $50,000. Some of the innovative and interesting projects included AI-powered systems to reduce workload and inspect natural disaster damage, smart homes for the disabled and studies on firebreak, to name a few. More than 850 projects from 1,000 students across the Bay Area and even internationally filled the San Jose Convention Center floor. It's very beneficial to us all and it's very exciting to see everybody here," 10th grade science fair participant Safaa Mouline said. This year’s championship took place virtually with over 1000 projects presented and judged via videoconference.

Also among the winners was science teacher Dr. Freshman Shloka Janapaty had a particularly strong showing, winning three awards on her own. This year, a record number of Presentation High School students presented projects at the Synopsys Science Fair, with 11 out of 25 students winning awards.
